Prison corrections, treatment programs, rehabilitation, and the prevention of recidivism is a process that can only be measured in small percentage points†¦sometimes gaining, sometimes losing, and on an individual level, in the trenches, between the agents of the system and the offenders, a sometimes lumbering, attempt and daily challenge to hold ground. The nature of crime and punishment (rehabilitation and prevention) is fragile and tenuous by nature, with no grand sweeping touchdowns or grand slams. With the nation’s correctional facilities burgeoning at an ever increasing rate, along with the financial burden at the state and federal level, even the small percentages of positive outcomes that are the goal of all correctional programs are important in their implementation, along with a steady and active analysis and retooling toward improvement. The red Cardigan is about a young girl who claims to have a ‘gift’ where she knows things and see’s them before they happen. Evie, the young girl had the special gift passed down from her grandmother. The text explores the themes of psychological realism, crime mystery and the supernatural. The Red Cardigan is about Evie seeing things that others don’t. She likes to draw but sometimes her hands draw something completely different then what she was wanting to draw. Evie wears an opshop store red cardigan which used to belong to another girl who is now murdered and missing. Since she started wearing it she has been getting hints from that girl such as her hands drawing a picture of the missing girl, and all these hints eventually lead to a solved crime mystery. Evie first discovered her gift very young when she was in the car and every time she drove past a certain spot she would see a girl standing on the corner covered in blood. Later on she finds out that that was where a girl had been hit and killed. She was the only one who could see this though and didn’t understand at the time. Evie’s mum doesn’t approve of this gift and wants to have nothing to do with it so as Evie struggles to solve this crime she also battles with her mum and makes life very hard for her. The positive aspects of this text is that it is really interesting and has a really good and sthrong story line. This book is not confusing but very easy to understand what is happening and it has many details to help tell the story. The text is very organized and also has flashbacks tthroughout the text which help you understand and keep you interested and always thinking. We can see this when Evie experiences a flashback in the middle of the book of one of her dreams she had about a specific place, which didn’t make sense to her at the time, but now when she’s at that place, she realises what the dream was trying to tell her and it leads Evie to finding the missing girl. For me I don’t think that there are any negative aspects of this book as I loved every minute of it and could not find anything negative about it at all. The author deeply explores the themes of the supernatural and psychological sides of things which has made her being very successful in engaging her readers. J. C. Burke has done a very good job at making a great storyline and planning out the story so it works well and makes sense all tthroughout. The Red Cardigan written by J. C. Burke, is an interesting and touching story about a young girl who has a special gift and is on a mission to find a missing person. It explores psychological realism down to every little detail and keeps you intrigued all tthroughout the book. The message of this story was to always follow your senses as it leads you the right way and J. C. Burke was successful in communicating this to her readers, as she shows us that by Evie following hers it lead her the right way and ends up solving a crime mystery. In December 1897, he was exiled under the pact of Bacon-Boat. From this agreement with Spain, the Philippines was promised a financial reward and liberal reforms. He returned on May 19, 1898. On June 12, 1898, Continual declared Philippine independence from Spain. He was inaugurated as the first president of the Philippines on January 23, 1899. The U. S. Did not acknowledge this decision. Continual declared war on the U. S. In February, which was the beginning of the Philippine-American War. This war lasted for 3 years until Continual was captured in his secret headquarters in 1901.He kook an oath of allegiance to the United States and retired living off the pension granted by the U. S. Government. Later in 1935, he tried running again for President but lost. He then began to collaborate with the Japanese after they invaded in 1941. He was arrested for a few months until released by presidential amnesty. In 1950, President Squiring appointed him as member of the Council of State in order to defend his honor. When he realized that the united States would not accept immediate and omelet independence for the Philippines, he organized a revolution against American rule that resulted in 3 years of bloody guerrilla warfare.He was captured on March 23, 1901, by Gene. Frederick Functions. Functions and several other officers, bound hand and foot, pretended to be prisoners and were taken to Gondolas camp by Filipinos loyal to the United States. Released and given weapons, they easily captured Continual, who then took an oath of allegiance to the United States and issued a peace proclamation on April 19. The bitterness caused by the war was soon transformed into friendship as Americans and Filipinos joined to work toward Philippine independence.Continual retired to private life, and his son entered West Point in the same class as Gene. Functions son. In 1 935 Continual ran unsuccessfully for president of the Philippine Commonwealth against Manuel Guenon. After the Japanese invasion of the Philippines in 1941, he cooperated with the new rulers, even making a radio appeal for the surrender of the American and Filipino forces on Bataan. He was arrested as a collaborationist after the Americans returned but was later reed in a general amnesty.He explained his action by saying, l was just remembering the fight led. We were outnumbered, too, in constant retreat. I saw my own soldiers die without affecting future events. To me that seemed to be what was happening on Bataan, and it seemed like a good thing to Stop. In 1 950 he was named to the Council of State, an advisory body for the president, and in his later years he was chairman of a board which dispensed pensions to the remaining veterans of the revolution. He died in Manila on Feb.. 6, 1964.
